Chiropractors treat a wide range of musculoskeletal and nervous system conditions. At Back 2 Health Chiropractic, Dr. Chavez commonly treats back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, sciatica, herniated discs, shoulder pain, sports injuries, plantar fasciitis, neuropathy, scoliosis, TMJ disorder, and more. Yes — chiropractic care is one of the safest forms of healthcare available for musculoskeletal conditions. Serious adverse events are extremely rare. Dr. Chavez performs a thorough evaluation before any treatment begins, including a health history review and X-rays when indicated, to ensure the most appropriate and safe care approach for each individual patient. If your condition is better suited to another provider, Dr. Chavez will refer you honestly.
The number of visits depends entirely on your specific condition, its severity, and how your body responds to care. Acute conditions often respond quickly — sometimes within 3–6 visits. Chronic or complex conditions typically require a longer course of care. Dr. Chavez will provide a specific care plan recommendation after your initial evaluation and will update it based on your progress. You will never be pressured into more care than you genuinely need.
Most chiropractic adjustments are painless or produce only mild discomfort. The “cracking” or “popping” sound often associated with adjustments is simply the release of gas bubbles from within the joint — similar to cracking your knuckles. Some patients with acute pain or significant muscle spasm may experience mild soreness after their first few adjustments, similar to post-workout muscle soreness. This typically resolves within 24 hours. Dr. Chavez uses gentle techniques and always adjusts his approach based on patient feedback and comfort.
Back 2 Health Chiropractic accepts most major health insurance plans. We also offer competitive self-pay rates for patients without insurance or who prefer to pay directly. We are happy to verify your benefits before your first appointment so you know what to expect regarding coverage and any out-of-pocket costs. Call us at (806) 425-5973 to discuss your insurance or payment options.
Your first visit at Back 2 Health Chiropractic is a comprehensive evaluation — not just a quick adjustment. Dr. Chavez will review your health history, perform an orthopedic and neurological examination, take X-rays if indicated, and explain his findings to you clearly. If it is appropriate to begin care that same day, he will do so. Plan for approximately 60 minutes for your first appointment. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring any previous imaging (X-rays or MRI) and a list of your current medications if you have them.
Spinal decompression is a non-surgical traction therapy that uses a computerized table to gently stretch the spine and create negative pressure inside damaged discs. This helps retract herniated disc material and draw healing nutrients back into the disc. It is different from a standard chiropractic adjustment, which focuses on restoring joint motion. Decompression is specifically designed for disc herniations, bulging discs, degenerative disc disease, and sciatica. Dr. Chavez often combines both adjustments and decompression for the best results.
Dry needling and acupuncture both use thin filiform needles, but they are based on entirely different philosophies and target different things. Acupuncture is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and focuses on energy flow (chi) along meridians. Dry needling is grounded in Western anatomy and targets myofascial trigger points — hyper-irritable muscle knots — to release them, reduce pain, and restore normal muscle function. Dr. Chavez uses dry needling as part of a comprehensive musculoskeletal treatment approach.
Yes — many types of headaches, including tension-type headaches, cervicogenic headaches (originating from the neck), and migraines, respond very well to chiropractic care. Research has shown that cervical chiropractic adjustments can produce results comparable to preventive migraine medications for some patients. The cervical spine shares neurological connections with the trigeminal nerve pathways involved in headache pain, which is why correcting cervical dysfunction can have a profound impact on headache frequency and severity.
Yes — Dr. Chavez provides gentle, age-appropriate chiropractic care for patients of all ages, including newborns, infants, children, and teenagers. Pediatric adjustments use very light fingertip pressure — nothing like adult adjustments — and are safe and effective for young patients. Common reasons parents bring children in include birth trauma recovery, torticollis, colic, ear infections, scoliosis screening, sports injuries, and posture problems from screen use. Dr. Chavez takes extra care to make young patients feel comfortable and safe at every visit.
